Two Drivers Injured in Wrong-Way Accident on Georgia SR 400

All of the southbound lanes on Georgia State Route 400 near Atlanta were blocked for approximately an hour in the early hours of April 20 after a car accident that was reportedly the result of a driver traveling the wrong way on the highway. The accident happened around 5 a.m. between Lenox Road and the old Toll Plaza.

According to officers from the Atlanta Police Department, the wrong-way vehicle was a 2011 Chrysler Sebring heading northbound in the southbound section of the highway. It caused a head-on collision with a 2010 Honda Odyssey that was heading south. The driver of the Honda sustained some lacerations on his hand, and also suffered from chest pains. The driver of the Chrysler was unable to provide a statement to police due to the serious nature of her industries. Both drivers were taken to Grady Memorial Hospital for treatment.

It’s a little miraculous that neither driver was killed in the accident. Wrong-way collisions typically come in the form of head-on crashes, which are extremely dangerous and have a very high fatality rate. There can be a variety of causes for drivers going the wrong way on the freeway, ranging from intoxication to poor signage. If injuries occur, liability typically rests with the wrong-way driver, as a traffic violation presents clear evidence of fault.
