Bus Carrying High School Cheerleaders Involved in Head-On Collision

A charter bus that was transporting the cheerleading team from Bullitt Central High School in Shepardsville, Kentucky to a national competition in Orlando was involved in an accident near Atlanta. According to the Superintendent of Bullitt County Public Schools, the bus had 29 cheerleaders and three coaches on board when a drunk driver reportedly struck it on Interstate 75.

Fortunately, there were no serious injuries to anyone on the bus, although the bus was left badly damaged. The other vehicle involved in the crash was also badly damaged, and that driver did sustain some injuries. He was taken to a hospital in the Atlanta area in the aftermath of the accident and was expected to survive his injuries.

The drunk driver is fortunate not only that he will survive the accident, but also that no one on the bus was hurt — as he could have been on the hook for several personal injury lawsuits in addition to the penalties he will likely face for a driving under the influence. When drivers cause accidents that lead to injuries and they are charged with DUI, their liability and negligence in civil litigation is automatically assumed, making success more likely for personal injury or wrongful death claimants.

If you or a loved one has been injured in a drunk driving-related auto accident, you may be able to seek compensation from the individual or parties responsible. Learn more about your legal options by speaking with a skilled Atlanta car accident attorney at McMenamy Law, LLC.
